Awana stands for Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed and is based on the Biblical principle found in 2 Timothy 2:15.
Awana was founded as a youth program at the North Side Gospel Center in Chicago, IL, by Pastor Lance Latham and Art Rorheim. Their goal was to develop a program that would appeal to young people, reach them with the gospel, and train them in the Lord’s work. Awana now impacts and shapes millions of lives of both kids and adults worldwide through the use of proven resources and helps churches and families develop lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ.
Our goals are to partner with parents to help provide clubbers a safe environment to help them come to KNOW, LOVE, and SERVE our Lord Jesus Christ, and help them learn to grow spiritually as they develop new friendships along the way.
We invite you to join our Awana Club for 2 years old through 6th grade
Wednesday evenings from 6:45 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Clubbers must meet the age requirement cut-off
before September 1st of the current club year.
2 & 3 years old: Puggles learn foundational truths about God. The program includes take home cards so parents can reinforce the weekly lessons.
3-5 years old (Must be potty trained): Cubbies is loaded with fun and an introduction to God’s Word for preschoolers. Cubbies club encourages these little ones to begin to make scripture a part of their lives through creative learning activities that encourage parent-child interaction at home.
Kindergarten through 2nd grade: Sparks incorporates friendship building and the gospel message with a chronological adventure through the Bible with twelve exciting biographies that shows kids that the Bible characters were real people. Sparks teaches children about Jesus through scripture memorization and small peer-group interaction.
3rd through 6th grades: T&T focuses on evangelism and discipleship. T&T leads clubbers into a deeper relationship with Jesus and teaches them to reach out to others through mission projects.
Club time is divided into three, 30-minute segments:
Small Group Time (Handbook):
Clubbers receive an entrance booklet and then a handbook for their club. They work one on one with trained leaders emphasizing Bible memorization through their handbooks.
Large Group Time:
Clubbers gather together for age-appropriate Bible lessons. This is an interactive time for leaders and clubbers to help clubbers better understand the Bible and for them to learn how to use it in their daily lives. It also includes announcements, presentation for handbook achievements and theme nights, singing, sword drills, and birthday celebrations.
Games are played around the Awana game circle, with an emphasis on learning teamwork and sportsmanship in team competition. There are also area-wide competitions where our teams compete against other churches in a super fun-filled game time.
Awana will be canceled if Prince George’s County Schools are either dismissed early or closed due to inclement weather
